In Computer Jobs in Newfoundland – Part 1 and Part 2, Newfoundland Computer Resources looked at the public sector and the opportunities for employment in these particular areas.  Today’s post is about the private sector in Newfoundland and Labrador and the potential for finding computer related employment with private firms.

Most of the computer jobs in the private sector in Newfoundland and Labrador will be concentrated on the Avalon Peninsula – primarily in the St. John’s and surrounding area.  With the bulk of Newfoundland’s population concentrated on the east coast of the island and the recent oil-industry boom, it makes sense that the majority of job opportunities occur in this area. Finding computer jobs in Newfoundland poses many unique challenges.  With a large rural population, the opportunities for the computer professional are often limited to the larger urban centres in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Computer jobs in Newfoundland will typically be located in areas such as Corner Brook, St. John’s and Gander.  However, that is not to say that opportunities for employment in the computer industry are limited just to the larger centres in Newfoundland and Labrador.  For those who are seeking employment in the information technology field in Newfoundland, job searches should first concentrate on the larger centres and larger employers in the province.
